Does the Torah allow for a Temple?

Where does the Torah ever indicate that the tabernacle is to be replaced by a temple?  Deuteronomy 12, etc, refers to the establishment of "the place" which He will choose "to tabernacle" (shik'n), which is sometimes cited in favor of a temple, but the "holy place" which was commanded to be constructed so that "I shall tabernacle in their midst" (Exodus 25:8) was the mobile tabernacle itself.  Would not this "place" in Deuteronomy include the resting of the tabernacle in Canaan?  For what reason would all of the commands of the tabernacle be allowed to be changed into commands for a temple, a different place with a different structure, which was not commanded?  I see absolutely no expectation of that in the Torah.
